Shared by Jann Vail, a Family Descendant

Introduction: The following account, detailed by Jann Vail, tells the early Faris struggles in early Farisita.

The Faris Family: Syrian Immigrants Shaping Southern Colorado's Heritage.
(Children of Asperidon and Louise: Joe Faris, Jeanette Faris, James Faris, and Raymond Faris)

Asperidon was my grandfather and ran the store with my grandmother Louise Saliba Faris. He had a massive heart attack and died at 40 and was buried in the cemetery to the west. Really sad and hard times for my grandmother who was left with a daughter, Jeanette and 4 rowdy sons. Jeanette is who Farisita is named for. Their son Raymond was the youngest graduate at Colorado State university at the age of 19. He was tragically killed in a car accident coming home from a basketball game, whose team he coached. So much sadness for Louise.

Grandma had it rough, working the store and post office and raising her family. Her hard work included delivering groceries to the mining camps in a buckboard on Saturdays.
